Any resident wishing to apply for housing in East Herts first needs to join the Housing Register. All housing applications to live in East Herts now have to be made online, via the HomeOption website in association with East Herts District Council.
There, you will be able to see your assessment in detail, including a breakdown of your points rather than just a total, and you can complete a change of circumstances online, instead of writing or telephoning the Council.
What to do
Follow the link to the www.homeoption.org website and use the ‘Registration’ button on the left to go to the section for East Herts. There will be a link which will take you straight to the online form.
You should contact the Housing Options Service if you:
- Want to apply for affordable housing and be put on the Housing Register
- Have any enquiries about the Housing Register or your application
- Are homeless or are being threatened with homelessness
- Need advice about a housing issue
The form itself should take no longer to complete than the previous paper form. After completing the form you will be given a bidding number, but you will not be able to use it until you have submitted all the necessary information and East Herts District Council have validated your application. A list of information of what the council requires will be generated throughout the application process.
If you are applying for someone else
Support workers and family members or friends will be able to help you complete the form but there will be a section at the end for the person completing the form on behalf of someone else to give their name and a part for the applicant to verify that they agree that the information they have given is correct.
You can use the computer facilities at the East Herts District Council offices to fill out the form online or speak to a member of staff who will talk you through the process. The Council will also make arrangements to visit very vulnerable applicants who cannot leave their homes to help them with the registration.
If you have any questions or queries about the Housing Register or require more information you can contact the HomeOptions team at the following address:
