Mark is a Bowel Cancer Champion in both his support for better treatments for Bowel Cancer but also to help raise awareness of the condition locally and support research into it.
Someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes, making it one the UK's most common cancer. It's also the second biggest cancer killer, nearly 16,000 people die from the disease every year. Yet bowel cancer is treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. However, only 15% are diagnosed at the earliest stage of the disease when the chance of survival is highest.
Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer research charity. Their aim is to increase the number of people surviving bowel cancer within five years of diagnosis from 50% to 75% by 2025 Mind. They do this through research, campaigning, providing expert information and education and fundraising. Mark is supporting Bowel Cancer UK by asking parliamentary questions over what the government is doing to support its treatment both nationally and what is happening locally to raise awareness.
