Getting a better deal for commuters

Mark is campaigning for a better deal for commuters. He regularly lobbies Greater Anglia and GTR about the service they provide, fares and future investment in stations, rolling stock and ticketing. He also lobbies Network Rail and Ministers, particularly for the doubling of the track capacity into London which would help cut delays at peak times and substantially increase the capacity of the service.

Hertford Loop

Mark has called for the break-up of the GTR mega franchise because he believes it cannot provide us with the focused management team to respond to local needs. Mark has written to the Rail Minister, Paul Maynard, seeking this change. For the press release click here.

He will continue to lobby them and Network Rail about poor reliability, information and the need to improve the condition of track, trains and stations.

West Anglia route, including Bishop’s Stortford, Ware, Hertford East, Sawbridgeworth and St Margaret’s stations.

Mark meets regularly with Abellio Greater Anglia to challenge them when things go wrong. Mark successfully lobbied for the existing rolling stock to be replaced with new carriages and is working to ensure all the promised improvements are implemented. These include:

  • replacing the entire fleet with new trains from 2019
  • one extra fast train per hour off peak from Bishop’s Stortford, from 2019
  • three trains per hour between Hertford East and Liverpool Street, from 2019
  • £9,795,000 of stations enhancements across the network
  • smart ticketing on the entire network by 2019
  • controlled emission toilets by 1 January 2020
  • free Wi-Fi at stations and on trains

Compensation – Delayrepay

Mark successfully lobbied for compensation to kick in after 15 minutes, not 30 minutes delay. The Government is rolling this out across the network and commuters on the Hertford loop can now claim at www.thameslinkrailway.com/contact-us/delay-repay/

Mark is now lobbying Abellio GA to do the same. The company has indicated they are minded to make the change but it is reliant on their discussion with the Department for Transport. Mark will lobby both Government and the company to secure this change.
